At the solar plant in Fundão, as part of the visual integration work
Dos Grados has initiated an environmental reforestation program for the environment in which its 126.5 MW solar photovoltaic plant in Fundão is located.
The first planting work began with the participation of about 50 elementary school students from the parishes of Pêro Viseu and Alcaria, located in the municipality of Fundão. During the day, which was also attended by Pedro Mesquita and Hélder Marrucho, presidents of both parishes, respectively, 100 trees of two local species very present in the territory were planted: Quercus suber (protected species) and Quercus pyrenaica.
In addition, Dos Grados has given a previous educational workshop on renewable energies, where students have learned how electricity is generated in a solar photovoltaic power plant, the similarities between this process of electricity generation and photosynthesis, and how green energies contribute to combating climate change and creating a more sustainable future.
Dos Grados, which commissioned the photovoltaic plant in December 2023, has initiated these reforestation actions as part of the visual integration work that will be implemented in the area of the power plant and its immediate surroundings to provide the area with greater ecological value.
These actions will consist of the implementation of a landscape integration plan consisting of 2,018 tree specimens and 2,728 shrubs, with the selection of native species present in the territory, as well as the planting of 29.75 hectares with different types of seed mixtures to favor the rapid growth of the vegetation cover and promote soil enrichment.
This initiative is part of Dos Grados’ environmental and social commitment in the territories where its renewable projects are located. Integrating the natural environment, facilitating biodiversity conservation and combating climate change are the cornerstones of its environmental management.
